Ahhh.. good coffee.

I know it says 'refer' in the URL but that's how they organise their website and it's not that I'm an affiliate. I find I can brew 3 times with each bag so it's a nice offer.

12:12 am - Some Japan travel notes
Consider buying JR passes. No need to figure out fares when travelling on the JR lines, and of course, unlimited travel for duration of pass.

Saga's suggestion: to purchase a rail pass JR Suica, and also PASMO (non JR) within The Greater Tokyo area. These cards' value can be topped up.

..more to be added, as and when.. )

12:21 pm - Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.
All over the media there is the news of Steve Jobs resignation as Apple's CEO.

We're all wondering how Apple will fare after this of course..

I like his commencement address at Stanford University in 2005.

4:52 pm - OneRepublic - Apologize
I heard this song on an episode of the tv series "Cold Case" and was so taken by it I memorised a line so I could look it up on Google. This is the video taken off the band's then website with a better audio version added to it.

A music video set to the original 'Apologize'. This is so polished I thought it was a promo video by a music company but this is a fan video. I saw this years ago and thought I'd written about it then, but I don't see an entry for it.

Why do they put stylish, witty movies like 'Alibi' on after midnight? Why?

11:36 pm - Peridot and Diving in Malaysia
As soon as Chanel Peridot appeared in the stores here I bought a bottle. Old gold with a flash of green. The green appears on my nails particularly well. Some other people see mainly the gold so I was pretty chuffed. It's Peridot after all. Well today I was with m'girl at Sephora and they had some new colours in. One a nail colour in gold with a familiar flash of green. I hightailed over to get a piece of tape round my finger just below the nail and painted on a nice long splash. Old gold with a flash of green. Chanel nail colour 13ml/$38. Sephora nail colour 5ml/$10. Ah well.. the Chanel does come with a box.. and flashes a lot more green.. and.. the bottle looks nice..

7:54 pm - randompic: onion from Japan
Photobucket

After the Japan earthquake in March, prices of vegetable and fruit from Japan have been lowered. Onions in particular are almost the same as white onions from other countries. Japanese onions are less fibrous and very sweet. Almost like eating a fruit!

9:01 pm - My account of what we did today on m'boy's birthday
golden ring jasmine tea

It's mboy's birthday today but I'm the one receiving a gift. I registered at Chinese Tea Shop's website and they sent me the above packet of Golden Ring Jasmine Tea. The jasmine fragrance is just as though the flowers are before you, not the headache inducing synthetics of some other jasmine teas. The leaves are fresh, green but not grassy. I used slightly less than a teaspoonful of leaves in a ceramic mug and 80˚C water. Within a minute the tea was pleasantly flavoured, jasmine scent still beautiful and the aftertaste not too astringent. The recommended temperature was 200˚F which probably would have brought about a brighter taste but I do not like to risk bitterness in a green tea. Lovely young leaf buds. A jasmine tea to be savoured and enjoyed sip by sip. By the third brewing, the jasmine scent had mostly faded but the tea was sweet with a slight green note. If I had to buy a jasmine tea I'd definitely be happy to get this one.

M'girl and I celebrated her brother's birthday by having chicken curry and later KFC crispy 'more chicken thighs please', some of our favourite food (haha!). I also watched, by the power of incidental tv, some Power Rangers Jungle Fury. M'boy liked the toy more than the series (the one then when he was growing up) I think. Soon I will play some FFIV, one of the first games we played together. And how is my son celebrating his birthday? Flogging maybe? He's in the midst of exams. M'girl has a paper this Saturday and more the week after. I'll probably play more FFIV to keep everybody cheerful. (Haha!)

Something triggered an allergy about 3 in the afternoon and I'm sneezing so hard. I wish my nose wasn't running. Chlorpheniramine Maleate knocks me out so I'm not taking that till half an hour before I want to sleep.

2:02 am - Today's haul is..

Or rather yesterday's.

I was going to pick up milk and some dinner when I saw manuka honey on sale. The salesgal told me that for S$50 Takashimaya was giving away a goodie bag. That was just $2 more than the honey. So I went to the payment counter where the goodie bgs were given out and ask if they had any more. When they answered in the affirmative I asked them to hold one for me and went back for the honey and added a packet of honey and propolis sweets.

I'm going to find out what Wildflower honey is like. As if double chocolate wasn't good enough, the shortbread has chilli in it! Assam tea, just what I'm missing from my usual lineup of Indian teas. Taylors of Harrogate also contributed 20 teabags.. opps, can't count - 10 teabags. Two each of green tea with peach, green tea with mint, green tea with lemon, lemon and orange tea, afternoon darjeeling. You might think that there is too much green tea but that's exactly what I picked when they offered a choice, only I had elderberry and linden instead of afternoon darjeeling.

Yays! tea. :)

11:59 am - Apples I bought earlier this evening

Three for the price of what one usually goes for. I was hungry and had one just. There was a third to go when I was already full. Those apples are almost 4 inches across. I finished it anyway cos I was too lazy to walk to the kitchen to put it in the fridge. :)

1:52 pm - Scantily Dressed Maids

Apparently there is a huge uproar over a maid service in France that offers young, mostly undressed maids. The maids clean and there is a no touching (the maid) and no photographing or videoing her, among other rules. I'm quite happy for a pretty maid to clean my place, so long as she does actually get the dust and grime off! The video above promotes one such service and the maid does look to be doing some cleaning - there are other similar companies' videos but their maid is not doing much but flicking feathers at herself.

..Oh, I visited the website of the company which the maid is cleaning mainly herself and they suggest to have her for parties. I guess they clean up your money more than your place!
